Hepatocyte growth factor(HGF) is a polypeptide growth factor ,which enhances strong celluar disintegration, tissue formation, inducing the migration and invasion. In recent years,it has become increasingly clear that the level of HGF has closely relationship with the development ,histological differentiation and metastasis of gastric cancer. It is helpful for us to realize the pathogenesis of gastric cancer via the thorough research of the HGF.Objectives: TO study the correlation between HGF and the generation, development and metastasis of gastric cancer. Methods: Serum HGF levels were measured by ELISA in 60 patients with gastric cancer(40 patients with surgical operation of gastric cancer,12 patients with non-surgical operation and 8 recurrent patients with postoperative gastric cancers),15 patients with gastric benign diseases and 12 health persons as controls. Results: Serum HGF level was higher in gastric cancer group than that in gastric benign diseases group and normal controls; There was significantly higher in group of recurrent gastric cancer than that in group of gastric benign diseases and normal controls;Serum HGF level in preoperative gastric cancer was higher than that in postoperative gastric cancer;Notably higher level of serum HGF was observed in patients with low differential or metastatic gastric cancer than that in middle-high differential or non-metastatic patientsConclusions: The HGF is a multifunctional growth factor which may play an important role during the process of the generation, development of gastric cancer.
