Study On Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Syndrome About Diabetic Retinopathy(DR)

Objective: By the analysis of the syndrome differentiation of viscera about diabetes mellitus(DM) and the relationship between DR and the other factors,we tried to find out the developing rule and the intrinsical interrelated viscera about DR, new ideas and therapies were afforded on the prevention and treatment of DR accordingly.Methods:116 cases of type 2 diabetes with DR or not were investigated in detail about symptoms and signs to observe syndrome differentiation of viscera,at the same time,retinal examination were performed to confirm DR or not.To analyze the relation between TCM and DR. The relationship of sex,age, blood sugar,duration and other complications between DR and NDR(without DR) were compared to observe whether there were differences among them.Results:Most patients with DR had yang asthenia syndrome of spleen and kidney,there was a significant difference between syndrome of spleen and kidney yang asthenia and the others(p<0.01).The occurance of DR had a positive proportion to the duration of DM(p<0.05),and not with sex,age, blood suger(p>0.05). Among the other complications of DM, incidence of DR is correlated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN)(P<0.01),and without difference among hypertension, cardio-cerebro- vascular disease and diabetic nephropathy(DN)(p>0.05),but the incidence of DR was much higher when DM complicating with DN.Conclusions:1.The occurance of DR was closely connected with the differentiation of viscera,it showed that the DM patients with syndrome of spleen and kidney yang asthenia became DR easily and rapidly. So the dorminant role of kidney was confirmed.2.The incidence of DR was increased with the course of DM and DPN.
