Objective Searching all prospective cohort studies concerning alcohol consumption and risk of coronary heart disease and mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus that have been published worldwide by means of Meta-analysis,in order to evaluate the relationship between alcohol consumption and coronary heart disease and mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods MEDLINE(1966~2005.12),OVID(1980~2005.12),Springer LINK(1997~2005.12),CNKI(1994-2005.12),VIP(1989-2005.12),Wanfang(1989-2005.12)were searched by using the terms of alcohol, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, prospective, cohort studies, etc.for relative prospective cohort studies. We evaluated all the studies that have been searched and adopted the studies in high quality.Review Manager 4.2.8 software was used to analyze the data input and to calculate the relative risk for coronary heart disease and mortality between drinkers and control. Results Totally 4 prospective cohort studies containing 11295 cases were inclued.3 of those reported the risk of coronary heart disease.Combined analysis showed that the risk within the every alcohol category was less than nondrinkers. The 3 pooled RRs were respectively 0.74,0.60,0.64.All the 4 studies reported the risk of coronary heart disease mortality.Combined analysis showed that the risk within the every alcohol category was less compared with nondrinkers. The 3 polled RRs were respectively 0.68,0.53,0.40. Conclusions Alcohol consumption(5-15g/d)is associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease and mortality in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
