XML Expression And Its Application Of Minimum Data Set On Medical Service Survey

The resources of national statistical information vary widely and the data from which the information is derived are huge, complicated and overlapping in content. Lack of unified data collection standard and exchange format makes data sharing among different systems, departments or regions very difficult. The repetitive data collection also results in resource waste. Therefore, it is urgent toâ‘ develop minimum data set on health statistical survey to standardize data collection, gain most health information from survey having least data items.â‘¡express the minimum data set with XML to standardize data exchange format, facilitate data sharing. All these will contribute to the purpose of improving quality and value of statistical data, and reducing the consumption of health resources.The study analyzed data items from which medical service core statistical indicators produced and built minimum data set on medical service survey. According to the Chinese Health Data Dictionary,the attributes of every element were defined by XML Schema, along which data exchange format was defined, so as to promote medical service information sharing.The main results include the following:(1) Built a minimum data set of medical service survey. The data set has 63 basic data items totally, including six parts as person, bed, expenditure, workload, discharged patients and medical expenditure by diseases.(2) With the XML Schema of the minimum data set on medical service survey, defined exchange format of XML data file.(3) Designed medical service questionnaire according to the contents of a minimum data set on medical service survey.(4) Developed entrance interface of questionnaire according to XML Schema.(5) Completed the entire process of data input, transformation and browse illustrated by an application example.On the basis of the research, the paper proposed a feasible solution to build minimum data set on medical service survey and to facilitate data sharing among different parties. Such a solution may be a way for development of other minimum data set in health sector, and may promote to the progress of national health information collection, analyze, dissemination and use.
