The Clinic Study: Reconstruct The Pelvic Ring With Bone Graft And Reconstruction Plate Internal Fixation After Resections Of Tumors Of The Pelvis

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the method used in treatment of tumors of the pelvis, which is to reconstruct the pelvic ring with bone graft and reconstruction plate internal fixation after resections of tumors of the pelvis.Methods: Analyze the clinic date of 30 patients diaglosed with tumors of pelvis in our hospital between June 1997 and June 2007.All these patients have received the therapy that reconstruct the pelvic ring with bone graft and reconstruction plate internal fixation after resections of tumors of the pelvis, and all were followed up for 6 to 36 months through clinic return visit or other communication ways. Record hours spend on operation, blood loss during operation, and the postoperative complication of reconstruction, bone healing and local recurrence were investigated. The postoperative function was analyzed according to the method reported by Enneking.Results: All these operations were completed successfully.Time spent on the operation was ranged from 2.0 to 4.5 hours, 3.0 hours in average. Bood loss during operation was ranged from500 to 2000 ml, 1200 ml in average. Most of the wounds were healing well, except one fat colliquation concurrent infection and one ecchymoma happened, but both of them healed through active treatment.The follow-up were ranged from 6 to 36 months, 24 months in average. Among all patients, the average healing time of the osteotomy site was 3.5 months (2.5 to 6.0 months). There were no severe complication happened, such as nerve injury, immune rejection, deep infection and fixation loosening .There were no local recurrences and tumor metastases happened. Pain of all the patients was obviously released after the therapy, and all of them could walk well with load. At follow-up afer half a year, the average functional score was 25.4, while the functional results were classified as excellent in 22, good in 5, and fair in 3; At follow-up afer 1 year and 2 year, the average functional score was 25.8 and 25.5, while the functional results also were classified as excellent in 24, good in 4, fair in 2 and excellent in 25, good in 3, fair in 2.Conclusion: The method that reconstruts the pelvic ring with bone graft and reconstruction plate internal fixation could achieve better therapeutic effect with less complication. It was a simple and effective way in reconstruction of pelvic ring after resections of tumors of the pelvis.
