Objective: TO explore the relevance of the peripheral tumor necrosis factor-αconcentration and the cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Methods: Randomly selected 40 cases in 100 patients who had cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in inpatient and outpatient during January 2007 to November, measuring the pain level of the visiting patients by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),at the same time in the next early morning, taking the peripheral venous blood from patients in fasting state ,then, the serum was to be extracted and cryopreservated. After collecting cases, detecting the tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) concentration in the serum using human tumor necrosis factor-alpha double-antibody sandwich enzyme immunoassay. Results: The concentration of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in patients' peripheral blood was significantly higher than normal. Using statistical software SPLM to analysis the data of the course of disease, the degree of pain and peripheral blood tumor necrosis factor-αconcentrations. But it is not from the normality of distribution. So, we used rank correlation analysis method. We found that the peripheral tumor necrosis factor-αconcentration has a positive correlation with the cervical spondylotic radiculopathy pain, rs= 0.9713(p<0.01).We also found that the peripheral tumor necrosis factor-αconcentration has a positive correlation with the course of disease, rs =0.3149(0.01
