Nephron Sparing Surgery For Renal Angiomyolipoma With Spontaneous Rupture (Report Of 7 Cases)

Background:Renal angiomyolipoma is a benign clonal neoplasm that consists of varying amounts of mature adipose tissue, smooth muscle, and thick-walled vessels. This tumor type, which is found in 0.13% of the population. Renal angiomyolipoma is easy to spontaneous rupture, which can be fatal if not identified and promptly treated. And renal angiomyolipoma is most like to occure in the both sides, so the nephron sparing surgery is the best treatment.Objective:To study the methods for diagnosis and treatment of renal angiomyolipoma with spontaneous rupture.Methods:The clinical data of 7 cases with renal angiomyolipoma rupture in our hospital from September 1998 to February 2008 were reviewed. All patients were examined by ultrasonography and CT scanning, and all of them were diagnosed renal angiomyolipoma spontaneous rupture before the operations. All patients received nephron sparing surgery. All were confirmed renal angiomyolipoma by pathological report.Results:All patients underwent surgical operation restored to health smoothly. By followed up for 2 months to 25 months, no patient had renal rupture again and all patients had normal renal function.Conclusions:Renal angiomyolipoma spontaneous rupture is flank pain, hematuria, palpable mass, and hypovolemic shock, which can be fatal if not identified and promptly treated. Ultrasonography and CT scanning are helpful with the diagnosis, and the nephron sparing surgery is the main treatment for renal angiomyolipoma with spontaneous rupture.
