Zhejiang Jumi, almost made from the bud of Chrsanthe memindieum, has been used as a kind of drinks in Zhejiang Province for a long time. Jumi has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory activities and plays protective roles in liver diseases, and it is especially efficient treatment of hypertension and vision feebleness. There have less study and report about the chemical constituents from Jumi. In order to investigate the chemical constituents and the active components of Jumi deeply, In this study, the Chemical constituents and the biological activity of Jumi were investigated. Five pure compounds were isolated by solvent extraction and chromatography methods from chloroform extracts and ethyl acetate extracts. The structure of four compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence such as UV, IR, ESI-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and chemical methods. They are Tonghaosu (Ⅰ),chlorogenic acid (Ⅱ),quercetin (Ⅲ),luteolin (Ⅳ) .Those compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time by this study.Furthermore, the essential oil was obtained from Jumi by storm distillation. The chemical components were separated and identified by GC-MS.Thirteen compounds were identified. The antioxidant activity of compoundsⅠ-Ⅳwas investigated by DPPH·method. The results showed that chlorogenic acid (Ⅱ),quercetin(Ⅲ),luteolin (Ⅳ) have stronger scavenging activity to DPPH free radicals than VC. The antioxidative efficiency of the isolated compounds was in the order of chlorogenic acid (Ⅱ) > quercetin(Ⅲ>luteolin (Ⅳ) > VC>Tonghaosu(Ⅰ) at 100μg/mL.The nitrite scavengeing rates of different polarity of Jumi extracts were measured by sepctrophotometry. Moreover, it was compared with the scavenge rate by Vc. The results indicated that the Jumi extracts have certain capacity of scavenging sodium nitrite. The nitrite scavengeing efficiency of the Jumi extracts was in the order of Vc > chloroform extracts > n-butanol extracts > ethyl acetate extracts > petroleum ether extracts at 96μg/mL., which suggested that adequate drinking of Jumi was helpful for people's health and Jumi has healthcare functions.
