[Objective]To study the possible relationship between the polymorphisms of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)gene promoter and hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection.[Methods]TNF-αgenotypes at positions-238 and -308 were detected by Polymerase chain reaction-Restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP)including 56 asymptomatic carriers,46 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients with elevated serum ALT/AST level and 49 healthy controls.[Results]There was no significant difference of distribution of allele gene of TNF-α-238 and -308 in the patients with HBV infection and the healthy controls.[Conclusions]The polymorphism of TNF-α-238,-308 were not related with HBV infection and hepatocellular injury.
