OBJECTIVE: To study the expression and significance of P-gp, Topoâ…¡and GST-Ï€in colorectal carcinoma.METHODS: Immunohistochemistry is used to examine the P-gp, Topoâ…¡and Gst-Ï€expression in 78 cases of colorectal carcinoma and 31 cases of normal intestinal tissues nearby.RESULTS: The expression of P-gp, Topoâ…¡in colon carcinoma is higher than that in normal tissues (P< 0.0167). The expression of Topoâ…¡in recta carcinoma is higher than that in normal tissues(P< 0.0167). The expression of Gst-Ï€has no statistical difference in normal intestinal tissues, colon carcinoma and recta carcinoma (P>0.05). The expression of P-gp was related to the degree of invasion positively (P<0.05), but not related to sex, age, clinical staging and nodal metastasis (P>0.05). The expression of Topoâ…¡and Gst-Ï€has no relationship to the degree of invasion, sex, age, clinical staging and nodal metastasis(P>0.05). Some correlation is found between P-gp and Gst-Ï€(P<0.05). Others have no relationship between each other(P>0.05).CONCLUSIONS: The expression of P-gp, Topoâ…¡and Gst-Ï€in colorectal carcinoma is high. They play different roles in the primary multidrug resistance of colorectal carcinoma. The expression of P-gp was related to the degree of invasion positively. It is consistent with the result of clinical chemotherapy. Detecting the expression of P-gp, Topoâ…¡and Gst-Ï€in colorectal carcinoma has the referential significance with regard to the prognosis of patients and the choice of drugs in colorectal carcinoma chemotherapy.
