Objective :To compare empiric treatment for 1ower respiratory tract infections with and without atypical coverage.Method : To select patients with CAP,AECOPD and bronchiectasis from January 2004 to December 2006. Time to temperature drop ,reach clinical stability ,length of hospital stay and treatment failure rates were compared between patients with and without atypical coverage for total and respective.Result :Patients with CAP treated with atypical coverage decreased time to temperature drop (57.8±39.5vs72.5±48.3h), decreased time to clinical stability(4.9±3.3vs. 6.0±2.7d), decreased length of hospital stay (11.6±3.9vs. 13.0±4.8d), and decreased in treatment failure rates (19.2% vs.34.7%).But in patients with AECOPD and bronchiectasis ,these has no distinguished difference. Conclusion: The result support empiric treatment for LRTIs must be according to the cause .
