Objective: To measure the normal value of Baumann angle of healthy children, and in the treatment of supracondylar fractures of the humerus we made the limb Baumann angle resume to normal levels and used external fixation made of cardboard and splint for reducing the incidence of cubitus varus. Methods: Baumann angle were measured in 42 healty children aged 2~12 years old. 72 cases of supracondylar fracture of humerus were treated with 2 different external fixed methods.42 cases of group therapy were treated with manual reduction and external fixation made of cardboard and splint. In the treatment,we made the limb Baumann angle resume to normal levels; 30 patients of control group used manual reduction and plaster fixation. Then compared with the effection of external fixation and the incidence of cubitus varus. Results: The study 1 of 42 cases in healthy children Baumann angle measurements were:the left Baumann angle of male 70.59±5.61,the right 70.67±5.35,the left Baumann angle of female 70.67±5.29 ,the right70.87±5.48. study2 :The effection of external fixation made of cardboard and splint is superior and lower in the rate of occurrence of cubitus varus than the plaster fixation. Conclusion: The measurement of Baumann angle can play an important part in preventing of cubitus varus formation. The fixation made of cardboard and splint can maintain the reduction of fixed Baumann angle, and prevent the occurrence of cubitus varus effectively.
