| Based on Xue Zheng Lun which was written by Qing dynasty famous TCM physician Tang Rong Chuan, this thesis focuses on the investigation of the origin of his academic thoughts, and researching his application of mechanism, therapy, prescription, medicine in TCM regarding hemorrhagic diseases.Due to the fact that his father was often ill,Tang Rong Chuan decided to learn TCM to help his father. When his father developed hemorrhaging,Tang Rong Chuan started to study hemorrhagic diseases and took his father to see famous physicians, but to little avail.A few years later his father passed away due to hemorrhaging and this affected him in a profound way.Tong Rong Chuan decided to focus his energies on ancient TCM literature and more importantly focus on the treatment of hemorrhagic diseases.Through the research of Xue Zheng Lun one can see the effect Huang Di Nei Jing, literature of Zhang Zhong Jing, and other TCM physicians had on his research.Xue Zheng Lun is an important literature regarding hemorrhagic diseases and its therapeutic principles and methods of treatment. It's concepts are unique, for example "Theory on Yin Yang Water Fire Qi Blood","Theory on Man and Woman Similarities and Differences" and "Theory on prognosis of life and death through pulse taking" were unique theories and scientifically valuable. His "Theory on Yin Yang Water Fire Qi Blood" is the dominant ideology within Xue Zheng Lun and describes the interaction of Yin,Yang,Water,Fire,Qi,and Blood and is incorporated in the physiology, pathology, therapeutic methods and prescription of hemorrhagic diseases."Theory on Man and Woman Similarities and Differences" disagrees with the idea that "Man's blood is expensive and Woman's blood is cheap",and discussed his academic thoughts regarding the similarities and differences of men and women, which he incorporates into his treatment of hemorrhagic diseases. His other theories on "Theory on prognosis of life and death through pulse taking" and "Theory of Dietetic Suitability and Restraint for Use of Medicine" also both advanced the treatment for hemorrhagic diseases.Tang Rong Chuan placed great emphasis on the syndrome differentiation of the bowel and viscera. In the "Theory of bowel and viscera pathology" he discussed the physiology and pathology of each bowel and viscera, and pointed out that one must understand this to be able to treat diseases. On the foundation of ancient physicians he improved on the theories of Lung Yang and Spleen Yin.Among the bowel and viscera he emphasizes the importance of the spleen, stomach, lung, and liver in the treatment of hemorrhagic diseases. In "The Diagnostics of Blood Syndrome" he categorizes hemorrhage diseases into "Hemorrhagic diseases effecting upper body","Hemorrhagic diseases effecting lower body","Hemorrhagic diseases leaking outwards" and "Hemorrhagic diseases causing blood stasis".He invented the concept of the four methods of treating hemorrhaging:"Stopping Bleeding","Dispersion of Blood stasis","Calming Blood" and "Inducing Resuscitation",which reflects the different steps of the treatment of hemorrhagic diseases. In his "Theory of Dietetic Suitability and Restraint for Use of Medicine" he discusses the different methods of treatment that are suitable and that which should be avoided. In his "Theory on prognosis of life and death through pulse taking" he discusses the ways to diagnose the prognosis of hemorrhagic diseases. There have been different methods of prognosis, including Gao Shi Zong's method of measuring the amount of blood vomited,Yi Zhi method of differentiating between internal and external and San Zhi Chan method of differentiating between area of hemorrhaging, but none are as precise and accurate as Tang Rong Chuan's method. He emphasizes that evaluating the calmness of Qi is the main criteria.Tang Rong Chuan wrote "Theory on Remedying the study regarding this literature" due to the common mistake of that time.He says Zhu Dan Xi mostly used cool medicine and Chen Xiu Yuan mostly used hot medicine. But scholars that only read the text at face value didn't realize that those physicians also used both cool and hot medicine and are just correcting the erroneous understanding of the use of medicine during their respective time periods. In "The Diagnostics of Blood Syndrome" he mostly used cool medicine, but emphasizes that one must differentiate Yin and Yang and syndromes before the prescription of medicine. |
