Objective : To evaluate the effect of curcumin on nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine A(CSA).Method: The rat group of CSA was established by intragastric administration of CSA 30mg.kg-1.d-1 for 28 days. Curcumin treated and prevented nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine in rats. The changes of weight, urinary volume(ml/24h), BUN and CR were measured. Renal pathological of light microscope changes. The mRNA and protein expression of HO -1and bFGF were examined.Result: In comparison with controlled group, the results in rat model were as follows: the weight was decreased(p<0.05), urinary volume (p<0.05),BUN and CR were increased(p<0.05). Renal pathological changes of CSA nephrotoxicity in light microscope was typical. The expression of HO-1 was decreased obviously(p<0.01)and the expression of bFGF was increased(p<0.01).After giving the curcumin , the results above-mentioned were attenuated in treatment and prevention group. Furthermore the prevention group was better than the treatment group. Conclusion: CSA nephrotoxicity was attenuated by the treatment of curcumin. The effects of the prevention was better than the treatment.. The mechanisms were connected with the expression of HO-1 and bFGF.
