A Clinical Comparative Study On Mesh And Mesh-Plug For Inguinal Hernioplasty

BackgroundOnce the inguinal hernia formed,it is impossible to be cured spontaneously.If you want to cure inguinal hernias,the only choice is surgical repair.Surgeons have different suggestions and arguments about how to choose the surgical methods for inguinal hernia.Therefore,treatment options for inguinal hernia operation are reasonable.In this paper,inguinal hernia in our clinical data were retrospectively analyzed.ObjectiveThe objective of this thesis was to contrastively analyse the surgery effect of Lichtenstein tension-free hernia repair(Lichtenstein tension-free herniorrhaphy)and plug-mesh tension-free hernia repair(Rutkow's operation) and discuss the individuated methods of hernioplasty.Methods and resultFrom February 2005 to Martch 2008,461 patirnts with inguinal hernia underwent hernia repair in the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University and relative materials were retrospectively analyzed.All patients above received surgical treatment.Except 2 of them had high ligation of the hernia sac without tension-free hernia repair after intestinal resection due to strangulated intestine,the other 459 cases had tension-free hernia repair separately applying Lichtenstein operation (B.Braun^?mesh) and mesh-plug operation(Bard^?Mesh Perfix^?Plug) in tension-free hernia repair.The follow-up duration of these patients were 6 to 25 monnths.Results in Lichtenstein group,operative time of every case was 30～65 minutes(average 45min),the hospital stay was 2～7 days.In plug group,operative time of every case was 35⁶5minutes(average 48min),the hospital stay was 3～7 days.Both groups had one recurrent case.The operation time,postoperative pain,postoperative average length of stay,incidence rate of complications and recurrence rate of the two groups had no remarkable difference(P>0.05).ConclusionsBoth Lichtenstein operation and mesh-plug tension-free hernia repair are ideal materials for hernioplasty.Tension-free hernioplasty is a safely,minimally invasive, and low recurrence rate satisfactory with the curative effect..
