propofol since its appearance, because of its excellent pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, such as rapid effectiveness, high rate of plasma clearance, fast and totally post-anethesia recovery, low incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, it was recognized rapidly and soon extended all areas of clinical anesthesia. Target-controlled infusion enabled the clinical application of propofol to enter a new era. Target-controlled infusion technology has undergone more than 20 years of development and tended to be consummate. At present, its distinct administration mode embody a enormous superiority in intravenous anesthesia. But the TCI technology still exist many challenges in accuracy of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic, precision of infusion pump, actual matching of pharmacokinetic parameter and patient, cost-effective of Narcotic drugs, and need to be improved.
