Objective: To study on the risk factors for breast milk jaundice (BMJ) of neonates and to discover the relationship between the manifestation of TCM and clinic features of the diseases. Method: Apply the retrospective study, establish database by clinical investigating in 138 cases from hospital and out-patient clinic, of which, 52 cases were breast milk jaundice, and utilize PEMS 3.1 for Windows to finish statistical analysis. Result: Of all the 36 factors investigated, there were 4 risk factors for BMJ, according to their odds of risk, they were: delayed expelling of feces (6.8533); often eating hot food during pregnancy (4.3273); often drinking soybean milk or eating bean curd (2.6553), and insufficiency feeding of the newborn (2.3126). The relationship between manifestation of TCM and clinic: 1. the main manifestation of TCM in BMJ were stagnation of damp-heat and stagnation of cold damp. 2. The appearing time of jaundice is one of the main factors which affects manifestation of TCM. When the age of the newborn is no more than 7 days, the manifestation of TCM mainly are stagnation of damp-heat and cold damp; Then when the newborn are 7 days old, it mainly is stagnation of vital energy and blood stasis. 3. The manifestation of TCM is relevant with the pick value of serum bilirubin. When total bilirubin in blood serum is less than 205umol/l, the manifestations of TCM are stagnation of damp-heat and cold damp. When total bilirubin in blood serum is no less than 205umol/L, the main manifestation of TCM is stagnation of damp-heat. If the direct serum bilirubin is also increased, the manifestation of TCM can change to stagnation of vital energy and blood stasis. 4. The manifestation of TCM is also relevant with the style of breast feeding and the enzymeγ-GT,AKP. Conclusion: The onset of BMJ maybe associated with multiple factors including maternal and neonatal ones. The manifestation of TCM in BMJ maybe affected by the time of appearance of jaundice, the pick value of serum bilirubin, style of breast feeding and liver enzyme,et al.
