The Expression And Significance Of SFAS And VEGF In Patients With Benign And Maligant

ObjectivesOur aim was to analyze the coherence of expression between sFAS and VEGF through comparing their levels in blood and pleural fluid for patients with benign and malignant pleural effusion,and offer basis to select differential diagnostic markers for clinic.Methods34 cases with malignant pleural fluid and 32 cases with benign pleural effusion(tuberculous pleurisy as control) were selected from Oct,2007 to Mar,2008 in the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central south University Respiratory.sFAS and VEGF were measured in serum and pleural fluid using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) for two groups.ResultsThe levels of sFAS ain serum and pleural fluid were significantly higher in patients with malignant pleural effusion than that with tuberculous pleural effusion 240.48±87.96pg/ml and 428.35±127.65 pg/ml vs.83.62±46.21 pg/ml and 165.76±76.90pg/ml,P<0.01;The percent of sFAS in blood and pleural fluid were significantly higher in patients with malignant pleural effusion than with tuberculous pleural effusion 85.29%and 88.24%vs.15.63%and 18.75%,P<0.01;The levels of VEGF ain serum and pleural fluid were significantly higher in patients with malignant pleural effusion than that with tuberculous pleural effusion 1226.55±387.15pg/ml and 442.90±253.69pg/ml vs.665.10±219.67pg/ml and 93.62±86.21pg/ml,P<0.01;The expressions of sFAS and VEGF in blood in patients with malignant pleural effusion had no significant difference(P>0.05).The expressions of sFAS and VEGF in pleural effusion in patients with malignant pleural effusion had no significant difference(P>0.05).There was consistency between two markers(p<0.01);In malignant group,The expressions of sFAS had no significant difference between blood and pleural fluid(P >0.05).The expressions of VEGF had no significant difference between blood and pleural fluid(P>0.05).There was no relation between the sources of specimen and their expressions;In malignant group,the levelsof sFAS in patients with squamous cells carcinoma,adenocarcinoma,large-cell carcinoma and small-cell carcinoma were 424.12±127.21 pg/ml, 453.73±118.62 pg/ml,422.78±112.20 pg/ml and 429.89±139.27 pg/ml respectively.The levels of sFAS in male and female were 438.65±122.39 pg/ml and 417.90±128.22 pg/ml respectively.The levels of sFAS in age 60 years old and age 60 years old were 436.33±128.09 pg/ml and 432.15±119.31pg/ml respectively.There was no significant differentce in pathologic types,sex and age.ConclusionThe levels of expression of sFAS and VEGF in patients with malignant pleural effusion were significant higher than that with benign pleural effusion;The measurements of sFAS and VEGF in pleural fluid and inblood had good coherence;There was no significant relations between the levels of sFAS and age,sex and pathologic types.But the levels of sFAS increased obviously in hemorrhagic pleural effusion.
