An Epidemiological Survey Of Borderline Personality Disorders In College Students And Study On Related Pathopsychological Factors | Posted on:2010-12-27 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:D F Song | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2144360278957386 | Subject:Mental Illness and Mental Health | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | Objective: (1) To investigate the prevalent feature of borderline personality disorder(BPD)in An University and examine the relation between childhood maltreated experiences; cognitive emotion regulation; self-esteem and BPD.(2) To explore the feature of inhibitory control in 31 students with BPD and the effect of emotion processing on it.Methods: (1) Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire(PDQ-4+)was administered to a sample which consisted of 3227 students to screen PDs.BPD subjects were diagnosed by Personality Disorder Interview-IV (PDI-IV),then they and 114 normal students were assessed with Childhood traumatic Questionnaire(CTQ); State of Anxiety and Trait Inventory (STAI) and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire(CERQ). (2) 22 students with BPD were measured by Wallace Self-Concept Scale(WSCS); The Self- Esteem Scale(SES); The Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI); Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS)and Implicit Association Test(IAT). (3) 31 students with BPD and 31 normal students were assessed with go no-go/Stroop paradigms and the emotional go no-go/ Stroop paradigm. Results: (1) The prevalence of BPD were 0.96% and it was more common in woman. The comorbiderate of BPD was 58.00% compared with other five PDs.The scores of CTQ were higher than the control and the physical neglect and emotioanl abuse positively correlate with BPD.The scores of maladaptive cognition in CERQ was higher than the control and its four subscale scores were also higher than the control, the anxious degree correlate with the maladaptive cognition of BPD students. (2) The degree of explicit self-esteem in BPD students was lower than the normal and they also had the significant implicit self-esteem effect. There was a distinguished disparity between implicit and explicit self-esteem in BPD students. (3) The reaction times and the number of errors of BPD subjects was qicker and bigger than the control subjects in Go no-go and stroop paradigms. In emotioanl Go no-go paradigm, the reaction times and the number of errors of BPD subjects was also qicker and bigger than the control and the the general paradigm. In emotioanl stroop paradigm, the reaction times of depressive; anxious and BPD's words were quicker, and the number of errors of BPD's words was bigger than the control. Conclusions: (1) There are some students with BPD in China and they have a high comorbiderate with other five PDs.Childhood maltreated experiences might contribute to individuals susceptibility to PDs and physical neglect and emotioanl abuse could explain BPD.BPD students probably adopt more maladaptive cognitive strategies when facing with negative life events. (2) Implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem probably are two relatively dependent self-evaluation systems in BPD students. The specific weight of implicit self-esteem was higher in BPD than in normal. The higher the disparity between implicit and explicit self-esteem, the lower their mental health level. (3) BPD students display a certain extent of inhibitory control deficits especially when processing emotional regulation. | Keywords/Search Tags: | Borderline personality disorder, Comorbiderate, Childhood traumatic experience, Cognitive emotion regulation, Self-esteem, Inhibitory control, Go no-go paradigm, Stroop paradigm, Implicit association test | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
