| Objective:To discuss the clinical features of breast cancer in young women, and analyse their relationships of prognosis. Methods:Analyze the data of 74 patients with breast cancer treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University from 1998 to 2004 retrospectively. All 74 patients'age were under 40. And then randomly select 35 female breast cancer cases who were over 65 years old as a comparison, all patients'specimen were confirmed pathologically. Results:The young age group of patients have a high proportion of late stage(stageâ…¢/â…£) than the old age group when first diagnosed (35.8% VS 14.3%, P=0.022). Pathological features,5-year disease-free survival (DFS),5-year overall survival (OS) do not have a statistically significant difference between the two age groups; In the young age group, patients with tumor stagesâ… /â…¡have a lower risk of recurrence than patients with tumor stagesâ…¢/â…£(5-year DFS 83.7% VS 62.5%, P=0.04), and have a worse prognosis (5-year OS 100% VS 70.8%, P<0.01); The young age group has a higher proportion of p53 expression by immunohistochemistry than the old age group(62.2% VS 40%, P=0.03); and the young patients with p53-positive have a significantly lower 5-year survival rate than p53-negative young breast cancer patients(84.8% VS100%, P= 0.03).Conclusion:Young breast cancer patients often have a high proportion of late tumor stage when first diagnosed, but the prognosis was no significant difference with the old patients. The young age group have a higher p53-positive rate than the old age group, and younger patients with p53 expression often have a poor prognosis. |
