Objective:To determine the pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of the patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) combined with cardiac valve disease. Methods:The present study is a retrospective analysis of 14 CKD patients with cardiac valve disease. The results of hemodynamic, biochemical parameters, auxiliary examination and Warfarin's application were reviewed. The clinical characteristics of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and valve calcification were evaluated by comparison with control groups respectively. The risk factors of coronary arteries calcification were also analyzed. Also surgical treatment and prognosis of ESRD patients were presented. Results:Compared with the other CKD patients, the patients with ESRD showed lower hemoglobin and hematocrit (P< 0.05), higher serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (P<0.01) and lower Phosphate ion and Calcium×phosphate product(P< 0.05). But there is no statistical differences in performance of echocardiography. There is no statistical difference in the parameters between the CKD patients with valve calcification and without valve calcification. Among the patients with valve calcification,50% had aortic valve abnormality. The valve calcification showed a correlation with the coronary artery calcification. The retrospective study indicated that the CKD patients with valve replacements could have a promising long-term prognosis. Conclusion:Mechanical valve replacement on early-stage was recommended for CKD patients with cardiac valve disease. And the importance of the coronary artery evaluation should be emphasized. The applications of antibodies, dialysis and statins are potentially to improve the patient's long-term prognosis.
