Obesity is a kind of chronic and metabolic disease, which not only damages the psychosomatic healthy of the patients, but also declines the quality of life and shortens the life expectancy. Modern medicine shows that especially the abdominal obesity is the essential factor for hyperuricemia, which is the common metabolic diseases in morden society and threaten humans'health seriously. There are varieties of treatment for obesity, such as western medication, operation, acupuncture, Chinese traditional medicine, and massage. According to recent literature, Chinese medicine, especially the acupuncture has shown the better effect and little side effect in treating obesity. Western medication takes advantage of clear target, but it is complained with some side effects and the effect is not so significant. Operation has obvious effect, but it is with high risk and serious postoperative reaction. Therefore, acupuncture has the great advantage in treating obesity, compared with modern medicine.By studying the literature on the acupuncture treatment for abdominal obesity, we discovered the following shortages:The therapeutic evaluation is simple. The majority of clinic research lacks standard design, large sample, and random control study, which causes low reliability of experimental result. Adopting the modern research methodology, clinical epidemiology and data statistical techniques, this project combines traditional medicine with modern research method and researches acupuncture treatment for abdominal obesity, which builds a multidimensional system of clinical therapeutic valuation and aims to finding a standard and effective therapeutic plan with no side effect for the acupuncture treatment for abdominal obesity. ObjectivesTo analyze the curative effect of acupoint catgut-embedding therapy for abdominal obesity.MethodsBy adopting prospective random control test, we take 60 patients of abdominal obesity with hyperuricemia from out-patient department of acupuncture as the object of study, which are randomly divided into two groups namely experimental group (acupoint catgut embedding group) and control group (acupuncture group), with 30 cases in each group respectively. We observed the multiple index of each patient, such as weight, BMI, the circumference of chest, lumbar, hip, arm, crus and thigh, and the experimental indices listed as follows:the uric acid(UA), insulin, fasting blood-glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C). Then we reach the conclusion of the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on abdominal obesity by acupoint catgut embedding after the analysis by statistics method. Results1) After the 1st course of treatment for abdominal obesity by acupoint catgut embedding,13 cases (43.3%) were remarkably improved,11(36.7%) improved, and 6(20.0%) ineffective. The total effective rate was 80.0%. After the 2nd course of treatment,16 cases (53.3%) were remarkably improved,11(36.7%) improved, and 3(10.0%) ineffective. The total effective rate was 90.0%. After the 3rd course of treatment,20 cases (66.7%) were remarkably improved,8(26.6%) improved, and 2(6.7%) ineffective. The total effective rate was 93.3%.2) By acquiring acupuncture treatment for abdominal obesity by acupoint catgut embedding, the weight, BMI, and the circumferences of chest, Lumbar, hip, arm, crus and thigh of simple obesity patients was significantly reduced.3) By acquiring acupuncture treatment for abdominal obesity by acupoint catgut embedding, the level of UA, FBG of abdominal obesity patients was effectively decreased.4) For abdominal obesity patients, UA and BMI was reported positive correlativity, while weight and kummerbund was not found out to have the same trend.ConclusionsAcupoint catgut-embedding therapy is a new, simple, effective acupuncture method with no side-effect. It is simpler than acupuncture, with less lead time for treatment but longer actuation duration. Catgut-embedding therapy and body acupuncture has no statistically significant difference in treatment for abdominal obesity and has benign regulating effect on decreasing UA. It is worth to clinical application of acupoint catgut-embedding therapy for abdominal obesity.
