Objective:To evaluate the results of intra-articular calcaneal fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation using titanium plate. Methods: From March 2007 to March 2009,according to sanders classification system, 32 patients (37 feet) of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures were classified :there were 24 feet of type II(8 feet on the left, right 16 feet),10 feet of type III(3feet on the left, right 7 feet), three feet of type IV(one feet on the left, right two feet). Lateral approach and fixed the fractures with titanium plate for calcaneus were performed, at the same time 28 feet were bone grafted (Autogenous iliac bone 5 feet, allogeneic bone 4 feet, 19 feet artificial bone). Regularly imaging reviewed and foot function test Postoperation, average Follow-up time was 12 months(range from 10 to 18 months), Follow-up results according to MayrLand foot scoring system to evaluate. Results :All patients were followed up. Bǒhler angle: average Bǒhler's angle was 10.62°preoperatively and 35.04°postoperatively for type II fractures;average Bǒhler's angle was 9.94°preoperatively and 34.54°postoperatively for type III fractures;average Bǒhler's angle was 9.50°preoperatively and 25.30°postoperatively for type IV fractures. Evaluated by the MayrLand foot score:there are 18 feed excellent, 4 feet good, 2 feet fair and 0 foot bad for type II fractures;6 feet excellent, 3 feet good, 1 foot fair and 0 foot bad for type III fractures;0 foot excellent, 1 foot good, 1 foot fair and 1 foot bad for type IV fractures. The excellent or good rate is 91.7% for type II fractures, 90.0% for type III fractures, 33.3% for type IV fractures. Conclusion :For patients with intra-articular calcaneal fractures, type II and typeⅢfractures are more suitable than type IV fractures to open reduction and bone graft .
