Objective:To investigate the expression of selenium binding protein-1 (SBP-1) in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN),cervical squamous carcinoma and the relationship between SBP-1 and Survivin,Ki-67 in cervical squamous carcinoma, the role and significance of SBP-1 was reasearched in the occurrence and development of cervical cancer. Methods:Immunohistochemical assay (Envision) was used to detect the expression of SBP-1,Suivivin and Ki-67 in 7 CINⅠ,13 CINⅡ,28 CINⅢand 63 cervical squamous carcinoma. The western blot was used to detect the expression of SBP-1 in the normal cervical tissue (6 cases) and cervical cancer (14 cases). To establish COX regression model analysis the independent factors on the survival prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.Results:1.SBP-1 was detected in both the nucleus and cytoplasmic by immunohistochemis-try.Expression of SBP-1 was reduced in 76.2% of cervical squamous carcinoma and was significantly reduced in CIN (p<0.05). Expression of SBP-1 between CIN I-II and CIN III was no significant difference (P> 0.05). Western blot results showed that the levels of SBP-1 in normal cervical tissues was higher than in cervical cancer.2.The expression of SBP-1 was not associated with age, grades and the depth of myometrial invasion, but highly associated with TNM stage (p<0.01).3. In cervical squamous carcinoma, the expression of SBP-1 negatively correlated with Suivivin and Ki-67(p<0.01).4. The COX regression analysis showed that SBP-1 and TNM stage are associated with the survival of patients with cervical cancer.Conclusions:1. The expression level of SBP-1 is gradually reduced in the process of developing cervical carcinoma. The low expression of SBP-1 or loss in cervical carcinoma is an early event in tumor development.2. The expression of SBP-1 was not associated with age, grades and the depth of myometrial invasion, but highly associated with TNM stage (p<0.01)3. The expression of SBP-1 negatively correlated with Suivivin and Ki-67 (p<0.01).SBP-1 possibly inhibit tumor proliferation by the promotion of apoptosis of tumor cells.4. SBP-1 and TNM stage are independent factors for the survival of patients with cervical cancer.SBP-1 is a kind of protection factor, it can be judged as a prognostic indicator in cervical cancer patients.
