Objective:To abserve the effect of Chinese medicine with cold and heat properity—Mankshood, Chinese goldthread, Dry ginger, Rhubarb on signs of cold and heat and on Energy metabolism in normal rats, and to analyse the tendency, speciality and rule of these effects, then exploring the signs of cold and heat, and reveal the inherent relationship to cold and heat properity of Chinese medicine. Lay the foundation for the guidance of clinical medicine.Method:The effects on temperature and cold and heat preference in Wistar rats in normal conditions after drug administration were observed. The EI, DE and ME were detected by Oxygen Heat Calculation. T3, T4, TSH, TRH in blood serum were analyzed using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The activity of ATPase and SDH in liver were analyzed using measuring kit respectively. The EC and the content of ATP in liver were dected using HPLC.Results:The paw temperature of rats increased in heat properity drug group, the EI, DE and ME increased, T3, T4, TRH in blood serum also increased, the content of ATPase, SDH increased, the content of ATP and EC in liver increased too. The rats prefer cold to warm in this group. And in contrary, all those sign in decreased in cold properity drug group. Conclusions:The cold and heat property of TCM was related to paw temperature, cold and heat preference, thyroid hormone, TRH, EI, DE and ME, the activity of ATPase and SDH, ATP and EC. Heat medicines can increase the energy reserve and energy metabolism. And the cold medicines can reduce the energy reserve and energy metabolism.
