Objective:To investigate the expression levels of BLyS and its receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and investigate the relation- nship between serum BLyS and its receptors expression levels and SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI), plasma complement 3, complement 4, ANA, ds-DNA and white blood cell. Methods:We chose the 33 SLE patients who were in accordance with the America Rheum association with 1997. Plasma from 33 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, who were separated into active group (n=20) and remission group (n=13) and 30 healthy volunteers. Plasma BLyS and its receptor, Plasma complement 3, complement 4, ANA and ds-DNA were investigated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). White blood cell counts were performed on an automated instrument, SLEDAI from the patients, case.Results:1 In active group with SLE, BLyS was (125.38±22.45)μg/L; In remission group, BLyS was (102.66±19.78)μg/L, in control group 30 healthy people, BLyS was (86.54±10.49)μg/L. The expression level of BLyS from patients with active group was significantly elevated compared to control group (P<0.0001), the expression level of BLyS in active group was higher than that of remission group (P<0.05), also remission group was higher than control group (p=0.006) but not prominent.2 BLyS-R protein of active group SLE patients was (3640.23±452.73) ng/L, BLyS-R protein of remission group was (2512.32±529.29) ng/L and BLyS-R protein of the controls was (2333.59±480.17) ng/L. The expression level of BLyS-R in from patients with active group was significantly elevated compared to that in control group healthy controls (P<0.05), the expression level of BLyS-R in active group was higher than that in remission group (P<0.05), also the expression of BLyS-R in remission group was not higher than that healthy controls (p=0.269).3 SLEDAI was in positive correlation with the expression of BLyS and its receptors, and ANA was also in positive correlation with the expression of BLyS. SLEDAI was the expression of BLyS-R positivity relation with BLyS and its receptors, ANA was positivity relation with BLyS.4 WBC (white blood cell), C3, C4 were in negative correlation with the expression of BLyS and its receptors.Conclusions:1 The expressions of BLyS and its receptor are in positive correlation with SLEDAI, So the expression of BLyS and its receptor may be the SLE clinical indicators which can be used as an index of evaluation of SLE condition and prognosis.2 The expression of BLyS is in positive correlation with ANA, but theBLy S-R does not have obvios coorelarion with ANA .So the BLyS may be muchbetter than BLyS-R in the evaluation of SLE condition and prognosis.
