Objective:The aim of the study was to evaluate whether combined oral Oxycodone Hydrochloride Controlled-release Tablets plus Paracetamol and Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets is better than epidural analgesia with respect to postoperative pain control and side-effects after cesarean section.Subjects and Methods:Sixty consecutive patients scheduled for cesarean section were randomized to either:patient-controlled epidural analgesia with 0.1%Ropivacaine+0.1 u g/ml Sufentanil(for the postoperative 48h)+injected pethidine on demand(EDA group); or controlled-release oxycodone (2×15mg for the first postoperative 24h;2×10mg for the second postoperative 24h)+Paracetamol and Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets(8 X 1 Tablet for the postoperative 48h)orally+injected pethidine on demand(OXY group). The two groups were compared with respected to rest pain, evoked pain (including changing position in bed and walking) at 6,12,24,36,48hours postoperatively and uterine cramping pain when the oxytocin infused at about 6,24,48 hours after the surgery determined by means of a visual analogue scale (VAS), pethidine consumption, side effects, hospital duration and maternal satisfaction.Rusults:1. The patients who received oral analgesia had less rest pain at 6,12,24,36 hours after the surgery(P<0.05).2. The EDA group experienced more evoked pain and uterine cramping pain at anytime postoperatively (P<0.05).3. Two patients (150mg totally) in EDA group injected pethidine during the oxytocin infusion whrearas none of OXY group injected pethidine.4. Maternal satisfaction with the analgesia regimen was lower in EDA group (P<0.01).5. Pruritus was more common in EDA group (P=0.03).Conclusions:Postoperative pain control after cesarean section with oral Oxycodone Hydrochloride Controlled-release Tablets plus Paracetamol and Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets is preferable to 0.1%Ropivacaine+0.1 u g/ml Sufentanil patient-controlled epidural analgesia as well as side effects and maternal satisfaction are taken into account.
