Objective:To explore laparoscopic de-roofing and percutaneous sclerotherapy in the treatment of simple renal cysts. Methods:A total of 140 cases patients with simple renal cysts (68 cases were operated using sclerotherapy and laparoscopy in 72 cases) were restrospectively analyzed from October 2008 to January 2010. The clinical effectiveness, post-operative recovery and expenditure of these two groups were compared. Results:The achievement ratio between the group of sclerotherapy and laparoscopy were respectively 88.2% and 91.6%, the incidence of complications in group of sclerotherapy was 13.2%(9/68),the incidence of complications in laparoscopy group was 15.3%(11/72). There is no significant difference in the achievement ratio and incidence of complications between sclerotherapy and laparoscopic de-roofing (P>0.05). When after operations, the mean operation time of group sclerotherapy was (57.7±8.4) minutes, the group of laparoscopy was (94.6±11.0) minutes ;the mean hospitalization duration of group sclerotherapy was (1.0±0.0) days, the group of laparoscopy was (3.4±0.2) days;the mean expenditure of group sclerotherapy was (5017.08±90.62) Yuan, the group of laparoscopy was (11698.35±105.76) Yuan; Patients recovered more quickly in sclerotherapy group than in laparoscopy, and the expenditure was lower. There is significant difference in the expenditure hospitalization duration and operation time between sclerotherapy and laparoscopic de-roofing (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusions:Two methods have their own advantages.we should select the best surgical approach depending on the cirumstances. Percutaneous sclerotherapy has less suffering and complications, quicker recovery and smaller expenditure. It is suitable for patients with simple renal cysts and poor physical states or poor economic conditions. Laparoscopic de-roofing is recommended for other types of renal cysts, especially bilateral multiple renal cysts, giant cysts and cysts indistinguishable from renal cancer and cysts failed in using PAEST.
