The biotransformation of artemisinic acid (1) and dihydro-epi-deoxyarteannuin B (5) were investigated using suspension-cultured cells of Averrhoa carambola L.. Five biotransformation products were obtained for the first time by using A. carambola cells as a biocatalysis system.3-β-hydroxyartemisinic acid (2,48.67%,1 d), and other two biotransformation products, artemisinic acid 3-β-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3,31.24%,2 d) and 3-β-hydroxyartemisinic acidβ-D-glucopyranosyl ester (4,7.03%,6 d), were obtained after artemisinic acid (1) was administered to the cultured cells of A. carambola. On the other hand,7a-hydroxy-dihydro-epi-deoxyarteannuin B (6,29.02%,1 d) and 3a-hydroxy-dihydro-epi-deoxyarteannuin B (7,23.26%, 1 d) were obtained upon addition of dihydro-epi-deoxyarteannuin B (5).The influence of some kinds of physical-chemistry factors on the biotransformation of A. carambola. Otherwise, antitumor activity of compounds 3,4,6 and 7 were investigated against K562 and HeLa cell lines. The results demostrated that 4,6 and 7 possesed certain antitumor activity.
