That actively promote the hospitals to reduce average length of stay, increases the hospital resources effectively through own tapping latent potentialities.The paper is precisely based on this background, to provide atheoretical basis for how to more reasonable and effective to shorten the average length of stay in a hospital, to improve the efficiency of the hospital .Objective: To know the status of the average length of stay at home and abroad ,and some related indicators of a hospital.To analysis the related factors,and take various interventions,which is improved the hospital management level, shorten the average length of stay and preoperative length of stay, improved the efficiency of surgical departments,medical departments, anesthesiology and the overall the hospital.Methods: This topic through extensive literature review, retrospective analysis the status about the average length of stay of a hospital.Research method is the medical instruments and annual statistics report collection to discuss, the depth interview, the questionnaire survey, the statistical software of Excel and Spss13.0.The intervention carried on for the main factors, which is related with the average length of stay and preoperative length of stay.Results:The results include the status analysis of the average length of stay and preoperative hospital stay,and the main factors,and the interventions,and the comparison of surgical departments preoperative length of stay, average length of stay of all the hospital before and after intervention.Through the implementation of interventions, a hospital in the first half of 2010, the average length of stay, preoperative length of stay have reduced daily, and there was significan.Conclusion: The average length of stay is an item appraises the hospital working efficiency the sensitive target,therefore,under many factor influences,in its influencing factor some are may the controlling factor,some are the uncontrolled system factors.The uncontrolled system factor includes:the health care system, health insurance policy, sex, age, occupation and condition of patients with such diseases. Controllable factors are: the improvement of medical management system and implementation, awareness and behavior of health care, medical technology, physician-patient communication.This research key point is in did not consider that the uncontrolled factor under the premise the intervention which the average in hospital datets controllable factor carries on before the part influence technique,through the processes optimization,enhances the hospital management the potency.
