Relationship Between Bottle Feeding And Class â…¢ Malocclusion In Deciduous Dentition

Objective:To disclose the relationship between bottle feeding and classⅢmalocclusion.Methods:Sixty children with a history of bottle fed were chosen as participants, thirty with normal occlusion(control group) and thirty with classⅢmaloccllusion(case group).The angle of head, body, and milk bottle from the horizontal plane of each participant were measured by a customed inclination device. Sucking pressure of the participants was measured by a negative pressure transducer. The value of∠SNA,∠SNB,∠ANB of the patients in case group with X-ray cephalometry (n=25) were measured. The data were statistic ally analyzed by SPSS 16.0 software.Results:No significant difference in the angles of head, body, and milk bottle between the two groups was found, nor the angle value from bottle to head(p> 0.05).The average sucking pressure value of control group was 20.1±2.7kpa and it compaerd to its cntrol peer,that of case group was 153±33Kpa, showed significant difference. The value of∠SNA was 78.75±3.35°,equal to normal; the∠SNB value was 77.42±.66°, significant higher(p< 0.01) while∠ANB value(1.01±1.78°) was significant lower. There were no significant correlation between the value of sucking negative pressure and the value of∠SNA,∠SNB,∠ANB. Conclusion:There was no significant difference in feeding posture between the two groups, suggesting the angle of milk bottle may not relevant to class III malocclusion. The deficiency of sucking negative pressure in case group suggests the possible relevance between lower muscle force and class III malocclusion. The main manifestation of class III malocclusion in deciduous dentition is normal maxilla and protrusive mandible.
