In the health statistics report announced by the Ministry of Health in 2009, injuries and poisoning ranked the 5th among the"Death Rate of 10 Main Diseases in Certain Region". They accounted for 5.08%, 8.59% respectively of all deaths reasons in cities and towns. And their death rates were 31.26/100000, 53.02/100000 respectively. However, the former four - cancer, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and respiratory system diseases - are mostly chronic diseases. As we all know, injuries and traumas make enormous losses to people's production and life. Injuries in maxillofacial region in particular occur frequently with high proportion of all body regions, and often lead to chewing, language dysfunction, and facial deformities etc. The patients and their family members may encounter severe psychological problems. In peace time, traffic accidents, work injuries, sports injuries and other accidental injuries are the main reasons of maxillofacial injuries. While gunshot wounds are the main reasons in war time. At present, many medical centers are developing trauma databases. But they are short of long-term, scientific and standardized data accumulations. Maxillofacial trauma database have just taken one step. Yet, there is no system that is available for clinical work. Therefore, the establishment of a scientific standardized maxillofacial trauma database system which is suitable for clinical application, demands prompt solution. Before coding the system, the"No. 1 Military Medical Project"Hospital Information System and its database were analyzed so that we can better fulfill the clinical requirements. The Oral Maxillofacial Trauma Database (OMTDB) based on Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) was established with PowerBuilder 9. There are 8 main modules and 12 score systems that are suitable for traumas in maxillofacial regions in it. A data importing module is included to import data from the HIS database. A TS-439Pro NAS device is used as the server to set up a C/S mode local network database system. However, as we progress further, we find the defects of the C/S mode. And to transfer the C/S mode system programmed with PowerBuilder into B/S mode system is far from easy. At last, we managed to establish the preliminary Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma Database website through the NAS solution– integrating the Apache Web Server, PHP, MySQL Database Server with NAS.OBJECTIVE1. To define the standard tables and fields for the OMTDB.2. To develop computer automation trauma score system.3. To establish an ASA DBMS based OMTDB with PowerBuilder 9.4. To establish a preliminary OMTDB website through the NAS solution. METHOD1. PowerBuilder 9, ASA DBMS and Oracle Database were installed in a notebook computer. Some data tables were copied from the"No. 1 Military Medical Project"HIS. Standard tables and fields were defined and created. Computer automation trauma score was programmed. A standalone version of OMTDB was established with data import module.2. The C/S mode local network OMTDB was set up by adjusting the codes, debugging the NAS device.3. Dreamweaver was installed in the notebook computer. PHP web pages were coded and later uploaded to the NAS.RESULT1. The C/S mode OMTDB was established.2. The preliminary OMTDB website was established.CONCLUSION1. C/S mode based OMTDB are suitable for clinical work and can import data from HIS.2. NAS solution is best solution to create a database system in medical field.3. The OMTDB website based on NAS solution is the future direction of research and development.
