Purpose:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of reduction that casts splint fixation in elbow pronation in treating supracondylar extension-type fracture of humerus in childen and try to find out that how to reduce the ate of occurrence of cubitus varus. Methods:We collected 60 patients between 2 to 14 years old who were diagnosed by clinic and X-ray to be srpracondylar extension-type fracture of humerus.they treated in the traditional Chinese medicine hospital of ZhangZhou FuJian from January 2007 to august 2009. According to Gartland type, they areâ…¡,â…¢type. Reductyon of the fracture according to the principle of rather radial than ulnar. Useing the Traditional Chinese way, we correct rotating translocation first ,then ulnar translocation, finally front and back translocation and the deformity of forward angular after pulling and traction. We divide these people into two groups according to the following up order and the treated method.30 people casts splint fixation in elbow pronation-bit position which is called treated group, and the others cases splint fixation in elbow flexion neutral position which is called treated group control group. All of the patient who after manipulation and plasrer do function exercise immediately. After fracture healing, we use the herbs which fumigate the upper limp fumigate the injured limb and do function exercise. we compared they on rate of occurrence of cubitus varus and elbow-joint function to evaluating the efficacy which casts splint fixation in elbow pronation-bit in treating supracondylar extension-type fracture of humerus in childen and preventing the occurrence of cubitus varus in clinical. Results:All cases had a follow-up of 6 to 32 months. We find that all of them had a good union of fractuee, and without ischemic contracture, injury of merves and blood vessel. There is not significant difference between them in their age,sex and the time of fixat and follow-up.The rate of occurrence of cubitus varus of the treated group is 13.3%, and the control group is 26.7%, according to statistical analysis, we find that there is significant difference between these two group in the rate of occurrence of cubitus varus(P<0.05), but there is not significant difference in the influence of the elbow joint function(P>0.05).Conlusion:Casts splint fixation in elbow pronation in treating supracondylar extension-rype fracture of humerus in children, which can prevent the occurrence of cubitus varus, and good recovery for union of ffacture and elbow-joint function.
