Tetraena mongolica Maxim. is kind of shrub of Zygophyllaceae, which have strong drought tolerance ability and fleshy leaf. It is the specific plant of China, and it is also the specific monotypic genus of East Alashan-West Ordos which is located in desert area of central Asia. Most plants of Zygophyllaceae are used to be folk medicine, such as Peganum mutlsiecutm Maxim. which is used for treating cough, joint pain, tumor and so on. The study of Tetraena mongolica is mostly focused on biology and ecology both at home and abroad. There is only one paper which is about its chemical constituents includingβ-sitosterol, dodecyl Myristate, 3-hydroxylupanol and two compounds of flavonoids. Its traditional treatment is not reported. This article does further research about Tetraena mongolica which is the Chinese peculiar plants in order to search its secondary metabolites. By repeated column chromatography, including Silica gel, Toyopearl HW-40 and macroporous adsorption resin, and preparative HPLC, 13 compounds were isolated from 95% EtOH extract of Tetraena mongolica. By using IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 1H-1H COSY, HMBC, HSQC, ROESY spectra and chemical methods, their structures were elucidated as 11α,12α:13β,28-diepoxyoleanane-3β-caffeate (1), 3β-hydroxy-11 a,12a-epoxyoleana-ne-17-al (2), 12-oleananen-3β-caffeate-17-al (3), olean-28-acetyl-3β-yl-caffeate (4), olean-3β-yl-caffeate-11-one (5), 3/?-hydroxy-11α,12a:13β,28-diepoxyoleanane (6), 3β-(3,4-dihydroxycinnaoyl)-erythrodiol (7), olean-28-al-3β-yl-caffeate (8), erythrod-iol (9), 12-oleanane-3β-caffeate (10), 3-O-(E)-coumaroylerythrodiol (11), quercetin (12), (E)-22-(3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acryloyloxy)docosanoic acid (13). They were isolated from Tetraena mongolica for the first time. Compound 1-5 were new which didn't be reported any more, and compound 6 was a new natural product. The preliminary chemical constituents study shows that the key secondary metabolites are oleanane-type pentacyclic triterpenoids which are substituted by caffeoyl, and they are the characteristic components. In a screen for immunosuppressive agents from the extract of Tetraena mongolica, compounds 7-9 revealed a significant immunosuppressive activity. In the anti-tumor screening experiment, parts of isolated compounds from Tetraena mongolica were detected by cytotoxity effect with L929 cell lines. But we didn't find the significant anti-tumor activity.
