Objective: Cerebral apoplexy is a kind of disease with high incidence, disability rate and mortality rate. There are multiple complications in its clinical treatment while hiccup is one of them. In addition, hiccup after cerebral apoplexy regularly performs for sustainability, which may increases patients'mental and physical suffering, lead to the deterioration of diseases and extend the recovery of the disease. Currently there are a lot of treatments of this complication, but it's short of one which is standard. Traditional Chinese medicine treat this complication with the therapy of regulating qi for harmonizing stomach and reduce adverse rising for stop hiccup and the herbals may be differentiation of addition and subtraction according to different symptoms. But case-control studies on clinical application of Chinese Medicine are limited by design, and the result of a single study is often questioned. The objective of this study is to evaluate efficacy and safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine used in the treatment of hiccup after cerebral apoplexy, and filter advantageous therapeutic methods and medicines. Methods: Collect clinical experiments in traditional Chinese medicine used in hiccup after cerebral apoplexy roundly, and make a inclusion criteria and a exclusion criteria, Filter qualified researches, then evaluate the quality of the qualified researches by the improved Jadad Scale. Do heterogeneity Test, Meta analysis, Funnel analysis, sensitivity analysis and estimation of Fail-Safe Number on effect index. Then get the conclusion according to the outcomes. Results: Retrieved 366 related literatures, 8 literatures were included and all the 8 ones were about the decoction of medicinal ingredients through oral or nasal feeding. Made statistical analysis the OR(odds ratio) value and its 99% confidence interval(CI) of the total effective rate and the adverse events incidence rate .The results of total efficiency analysis were Z=8.74, P<0.00001,with OR value and its 99%CI 11.66[5.65, 25.03]. The fail-safe number of this result is estimated as 171.81 when P=0.01. Then rule out the included study one by one, and do Meta analysis respectively. The results are no significant difference from the previous one. One literature reported the death case, and OR value and 99% CI of its incidence were 0.66[0.06, 7.22]. There is no explicitly relationship between drugs and death. Conclusion: The study showed that Chinese herbal medicine has definite effect for hiccup after cerebral apoplexy and without obvious adverse reaction, so it can be used as an effective means in clinical treatment. Furthermore, it's still necessary to carry out a series of multi-center, prospective, randomized and double-blind clinical trials that are well-designed based on syndrome differentiation dependent treatment to guide clinical treatment.
