Objective: The study aims at understanding the 0～3-year-old infant and young child feeding and complementary feeding conditions, 0～6-year-old children's growth status and prevalence in Nannan District Chongqing in 2008, to explore and evaluate the relationship between the feeding of the infant and young child in this region and growth, evaluate the quality of primary child health care, provide reference for child health care in this region, and provide the basis for carrying out effective interventions actively in the future.Methods: Extract the 0～3 years old children who undergo a medical examination in health and medical institutions at all levels of pediatric outpatient not from the nursery school in Nanan District Chongqing in 2008 with stratified machine sampling according to the requirements of the age group, the chileren extracted would receive the diet questionnaire and physical development examination; extract the children aged 2 to 6 who has entered the kindergarden study in Nanan District Chongqing in 2008 with cluster sampling, the children extracted would receive the physical development test.Results: Five thousand nine hundred and sixty six children in Nanan district in Chongqing in 2008 were in the survey. The ratio of male to female was 1.05:1, the birth weight was 3.31±0.50kg, the birth length was 49.92±1.84cm, premature birth and asphyxia had impact on newborn physical; The medium of children's growth and development were greater than 68.27%, the medium above and below were less than 15.87%, the physical indicators increase with age, the growth of aged 0-1 was the highest, there was no significant difference between urban and rural, there was a trend of obesity evaluated by Z-points and compared with the national standard in 2005 and the children in Shanghai in 2005; 0 ~ 3-year-old children not from the nursery school were suffering from the disease by the top three respectively, anemia, respiratory infections and diarrhea, 2 ~ 6-year-old nursery children have been suffering from the disease as the top three were dental caries, phimosis, simple obesity; Exclusive breastfeeding rate in 6 months of 0 ~ 3 years old infants was 59.61% (rural areas higher than urban areas), it was away from the "two systems" target of 80%, add complementary feeding within 4 months accounted for 56.89%, the phenomenon of adding early was prominent, fruits and vegetables was on the highest of the various types of complementary feeding rate, legumes was on the lowest, more animal protein-rich was added, vegetable protein was lacked, the complementary feeding rate in urban areas was generally higher than rural, five or more types of food supplement in urban areas was higher than rural, the height and weight of breastfeeding infants and young children were greater than the mixed-feeding or dairy of cattle and sheep within 6 months, the height and weight of infant added more than 5 food supplement are higher than those not added, added 1 to 2 and 3 ~ 4.Conclusion: The overall situation of chileren's growth and development in Nanan in Chongqing in 2008 needed to be improved. In the circumstances of economic developing and differences between urban and rural areas in Chongqing shrinking, to raise the level of growth and development of children in the region, comprehensive interventions need to be taken: including the increasing concern of all sectors of society; Improve network construction and management of maternal and child health; Strength perinatal health care, early treat pregnant women diseases and timely process high-risk pregnancies; Strength fetal monitoring, to avoid fetal hypoxia; Promote ABCDE resuscitation, train production,pediatric health care workers; Promot hospital delivery, the woman who makes hospital delivery should be subsidized, the delivery room will be equipped with resuscitation equipment; Strength education of children's knowledge of growth and development; Enhance the early screening and treatment of disease; From the national laws and regulations to ensure and support breastfeeding for 6 months, improving maternal system management and and health knowledge of propaganda and so on, to promote children's physical development in the region, reduce the burden on families and society, do something for the goal of "health Chongqing".
