| The theory of"the flexible usage of parts of speech", on which there're still many disagreements among scholars, has been greatly developed since it was created by Chen Chengze. During Spring and Autumn Period the society is in the revolutionary stage both in political and cultural aspects. At the same time, rich of the phenomenon of"the flexible usage of parts of speech", the language at that time can also be served as an evidence.Lü's commentaries of History is considered to have the important academic value as the language material for the study of the theory of"the flexible usage of parts of speech"at that period since it was written in 239 B.C., when a hundred shools of thoughts and culture were splendid.On the theory, there're generally three viewpoints among current grammarians: some insist that the theory, even though defective, should be adopted in view of its vital role in grammar teaching; other scholars, such as Guo Xiliang, Li Zuofeng, Xiang Xi and Yang Jianqiao, hold the view that the theory should be amended since it's defective; others question the theory and even consider it's completely worthless.The thesis adopts Guo Xiliang's point of viw, summarizing the statoistics of appearance frequency of nouns, verbs and adjectives and analyzing the rule of"the flexible usage of parts of speech"in Lü's commentaries of History. It serves for the theory as the language material analysis.The thesis consisits of 6 chapters: chapter 1, general introduction, mainly introduces the significance of selecting the topic, the general situation of the research district and the research methods; chapter 2 probes into some issues involved, such as the definition of"the flexible usage of parts of speech",how to distinguish"the flexible usage of parts of speech"from the"the convesion of parts of speech"and the style of"the flexible usage of parts of speech";chapter 3 details the rules of"the flexible usage of the noun", including the type of"the flexible usage of the noun", the change in semantics when the noun is flexibly used as a verb and the condition when the noun can be flexibly used as a verb; chapter 4 details the rules of"the flexible usage of the verb",including the type of"the flexible usage of the verb", and the change in semantics when the verb is flexibly used as a noun;chapter 5 details the rules of"the flexible usage of the adjective",including the type of"the flexible usage of the ajective"and the condition when the adjective can be flexibly used as a verb;chapter 6 is the conclusion, in which the contrast and analysis of the different rules among"the flexible usage of the noun","the flexible usage of the verb"and"the flexible usage of the adjective", and the rule of"the flexible usage of parts of speech"in Lü's commentaries of History is summarized. |
