| The teaching of Chinese character always has been a bottleneck in the field of TCFL in the past decade. Researchers and scholars from home and abroad are beginning to focus on this field and making some achievements, particularly in the following areas such as the pedagogy of teaching Chinese characters, the compilation of textbooks and the empirical study of Chinese character learners etc. However, there is not a comprehensive study involving the specific analysis of such achievements.Though we can occasionally find out some related summarising studies, to some extent, they are short of deep insights. Based on a number of comparative studies and analysis, this paper deeply demonstrates and analyses the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners in the past decade from the perspectives of methodology, textbooks and foreign-learners. Furthermore, some suggestions are provided for the future development of the teaching of Chinese characters to foreigners,which is helpful in terms of further research and development of teaching Chinese Character.The introduction part provides a survey of the development of the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners which demonstrates the urgency of making a conclusive study of previous achievements in the past decade. The problems coming out of the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners are also listed.Chapter two provides a general picture of the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners history and previous research achievements. Through the analysis of such typical achievements, the underlying problems existing in the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners are pointed out.Chapter three is the major part, which concentrates on the comparative study of previous pedagogics, textbooks of the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners and the process of foreign learners' learning Chinese character in the past decade. The first section is a deep analysis of several Chinese character teaching methods and their teaching effectiveness. The related pedagogical deficiencies are figured out in the way of comparative study. Some positive suggestions are made about the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners; the second section is a tentative summary about the Chinese-character-teaching textbooks. The problems inside the textbooks are analyzed and some suggestions are presented; the third section is a research on the process of foreign learners' learning Chinese characters and their strategies. A summary is made from the perspective of cognition and acquisition errors, the deficiencies in strategies are analyzed and some suggestions are offered.The last chapter discusses the tendency of the teaching of Chinese character to foreigners with suggestions on the improvement and in-depth study in the future. |
