Chinese Culture Construction Under The Modern Horizon

Culture is a national lifestyle which includes world view, methodology, values, thinking mode, religious belief, ethical standards, psychological feature, cognitive competence, and so on."Culture is all about our lives". Study, research and compare on different cultures has a significant value for promoting the construction of Chinese culture. Chinese and Western culture can be considered to two of the most important cultures all over the world. Making a contrast on them, mutual learning, communication and merge together will have a very important significance in nowaday globalized society.The differences between the two cultures result from the differences of the geographic environment and the condition of history. With regards to the geographic environment, the property of Chinese culture is inland agriculture, the Western culture is thalasso industry and commerce. For the developing history, the former has a long history for five thousands years, which mainly origined from the Han Dynasty, the latter origined from the Roman culture of the ancient Greek, and amalgamationed of Hebraism, then finaly formed the Christian culture.The mode of thinking as one of the important factors gave rise to the differences of the two cultures. The Chinese emphasize spirit, is introvert and comprehensive, urge that man is an integral part of nature and prefer collectivism and comprehensive. On the contrary, the western emphasize the outward appearances, is extrovert and simple, urge that man must defeat the nature, regard logical reasoning and prefer individualism and analysis.The different values also is an important factor resulted in the differences of the two cultures. The Chinese culture emphasizes the family, takes ethic as mainly standard, regards ethics and professional standards. However, the Western culture emphasizes the individual, takes himself as mainly standard, regards democracy and science. The former centre is philosophy, the latter centre is religion. The culture is virtuous culture and guilt culture, respectively.To compare Chinese with Western culture isn't in order to seek the excellent, our aim is to complement the weeknesses and promote the construction of Chinese culture. As Leibnitz of German philosopher said,'The Chinese should exchange the owned with the European, learn from others's strong points to offset own weakness, to light one light with the other'.To study obeying the science, democracy and rational behavior from the Western culture, and the style of emphasizing analysis and facts. Retaining the essences of the Chinese traditional culture, for example'The unity of heaven and humanity','The unity of knowledge and action','Seek the truth from facts','Largely identical but with minor differences','People oriented'and'Harmonious thinking'. Merged together the two cultures under the guide of Marxism theory, concepts and methods, which must further promote the construction of Chinese culture.
