The term "linear" was proposed by the father of the modern linguistics–Ferdinand de Saussure,he thought the signifier of language can be attributed to the nature of that in his book named《Course in General Linguistics》. In his view, because it (also called "stereo image") belongs to hearing nature, Can only be launched in time, and it is usually represented as a length and this length can only be determined on a dimension. He thinks linguistic symbols can only be started in time, and has borrowed from the time characteristics:"In the discourse, each word, because it is linked to others to form the lines of a language based on the relationship between the two elements and rule out the possibility of them simultaneously. One element is next to the other in a speech chain."It is precisely the basic principles of language which we use as the core theory to discuss the language of the linear constraints of verbal communication, to discuss the resulting communication problems and phenomena, to search the corresponding compensation strategies.Full text is divided into the three parts:Part 1: To explore the relations between linear and the time factor in languageThe first half we recall the previous studies of the linear in a language, and then make about two assumptions:(1)Linear is caused by time; its essence is the concept of time. The concept of time is linear through the expression of words.(2)Ultimately linear was expressed as the language of symbols and it plays an important role in verbal communication. The essence of linear is time in language; It is the human concept of time reflected in the language, and the linear restricts the whole structure of language.Through the study on the network language, the second half part is mainly used to prove that linear did exist in the language, which are not someone's speculations or fabricated results.Part 2: Effects of linear to verbal communicationThis part mainly discusses the influence of linguistic signs to verbal communication, and then explains some problems of traditional notions by using the theory of linear in language. These problems include:(1)Words are not issued by the level of language structure: Semantics, syntax, voice;(2)Words have been issued by the level of verbal communication: Pragmatic; This section is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the relationship between the language of linear and the level of language structure in which words is not issued by, and re-interprets some problems, including word order, vocabulary composition, level, language sound changes and other issues. The second focuses on the relationship between the language of linear and the level of language structure in which words have been issued by. Here, we will borrow the theory of verbal communication, including:(1)The theory of correlation;(2)Information processing theory; We first introduce a concept - language coherence. Based on this concept, we will discuses the two-way relationship between the linear and coherent to structure the verbal communication; In 3rd chapter,we'll discuss and analyze the problems in verbal communication.Part 3: The compensatory strategies of verbal communication under the restriction of linearThis part is the supplement of part 2. We mainly discuss the language coherent problems brought by the constraints of linear relations and speech communication, and try to find the corresponding compensation strategies, through the analysis of linear features.Part 4: The conclusionWe will summarize the main content of this text, and sort of the relationship between linear and the verbal communication. Linear will be our core theory. Base on it, we will deconstruct the constraints of verbal communication and its problems, trying to conclude the appropriate conclusions.
