Arnold Schoenberg was born in 1874 and died in 1951, who is an Austrian composer, theorist, music educator, as well as the founder of expressionism music. He created plenty of different works during his life and twelve- tone technique is an important field of his research, which is used more.This paper uses his later creation< Fourth String Quartet Op.37> to reseach twelve-tone technique and also pays attention to the creation characteristic and the expression way between traditional technique and modern technique in the late of his works. It has a great value for knowing about the writer's creation thoughts and expanding twelve-tone technique.This thesis includes introduction, three chapters and epilogue.Introducion includes two parts. The first states the origin of present situation. The second is an outline of his lifetime and works, as well as the writer's exploration of the the system of the8 twelve-tone technique.The first chapter researches the core sequence structure, subjec analysis of twelve-tone and sequence principle of twelve-tone.The second chapter researches sequence serial morphology in order to analyse the pitch and serial style by the means of basic serial morpholoy and special serial morphology.The third chapter reseaches the special sequence relation and analyses it according to combination morphology and internalstructure, which pays attention to the internalstructure in two important respects:the expression of combination sequence and balanced series of sound sequence.On the basis of summarizing the whole thesis, epilogue is a theretical summarization and promotion about the writer's twelve-tone techique's expansion in the late of his creation.
