The Image Of The Door And "Angle In The House" —The View Of Women In George Eliot's Novel

George Eliot (1819-1880) was a famous British critical realist in the 19th century, and also one of the famous writers in the Victorian era. Eliot's novels have serious philosophical color, there are full of wise thinking, unique insights about people, society, history, religion, philosophy and nature and many other issues. Eliot, as well as its conservative women writers and view of women, has been the subject of much attention and controversy.In the Victorian era, women were called "angel in the house" in a position of being discriminated.Women had no freedom in the substance and spirit, bound by the male society. George Eliot was a pioneer through the ages, did not agree with the position of women as "angel in the house" at that time, and broke the door of secular morality and the family into the society and writes a legend.Eliot's novels use of the door image several times,for showing their consideration and protest against unequal status of women and men. Therefore, this paper starts from the perspective of the door image to explore Eliot's view of women. and have a comprehensive systematic classification of the door image, and combined images to explore its special role in the performance of feminist consciousness and hope give help with George Eliot's novels in-depth research.This article is divided into five parts:Introduction, this part is mainly for domestic and foreign research about novels of George Eliot, and the statements about the achievements and problems in present study. Then it leads to the focus and studying methods of this thesis—the door image's relationship with the George Eliot's view of women.Part one, this part is mainly the classification of the door in culture and literature from the broad interpretation, and combined with the experience of writers to analyze the reason of George Eliot's love of the door image.Part two, this part discusses that the main door image about women of Eliot's novel were categorized: the door of the woman, that is"angel in the house" and the outside world who are fighting for love and achieving the ideal of women, combined with the specific examples provide an explanation.Part three, this part describes the relationship between the ethics of the door , the religion of the door and the George Eliot's view of women. Eliot who advocates love, with particular emphasis on the impact of women on men, I hope to do fair share in the family, at the same time, take on the moral and religious responsibility, salvation for others, self-redemption, in order to achieve self-worth.Conclusion, the summary of the full text, noting the limitations of research and put forward further ideas for future work.
