Strategies Of Cultivating Vocational Core Competencies Of Students Majoring In English In Higher Vocational Colleges Of Jilin Province

Vocational Core Competencies of English major means that English professionals should master the ability which applies for every kind of vocations relating to English, when the business or the position they worked have changed. Cultivating Vocational Core Competencies of Students Majoring in English in Higher Vocational Colleges is the most important way for their employment, and higher vocational colleges pay more and more attention on this project. Higher Vocational Education in Jilin Province develops slowly, and the project in cultivating vocational core competencies of students majoring in English is still in researching and has not got much achievement, which lead the rate of employment to be low. To strength cultivating vocational core competencies of students majoring in English is not only the direction of development of human resources and vocational education, and the requirement to build up the "school to career" lifelong education, but also the key measure to improve employment ability of higher vocational English major graduates.By researching related theory and practical methods both from our own country and abroad, and combining with the actuality of the development of English major of higher vocational colleges in Jilin Province, this paper analyzes the requirement of cultivating vocational core competencies of students majoring in English. At the same time, through investigating and analyzing the actuality of cultivating vocational core competencies of students majoring in English in higher vocational colleges of Jilin Province, this paper also summarizes the main problems in carrying this project, those are:most colleges are not very clear the essence and importance of vocational core competencies of English major; they don't have a confirmative cultivation objective; there are many weakness in their English practical system; the English teacher lack of knowledge and ability of vocational core competencies of English major; the content and teaching method in English are outdated; evaluation manner lack of diversity.For these problems, this paper takes the requirements and English ability of students majoring in English into account, and then proposes some strategies, including:to establish a cultivation objective of English which is appropriate for their own actuality; construct employment-oriented curriculum pattern based on the theory of vocational core competencies' curriculum; create new teaching methods to improve English major students' vocational core competencies; strength the training of teachers on such aspect of knowledge and skills; advocate the college-enterprise cooperation to cultivate vocational core competencies with multi-approach; set up a multiple teaching evaluation system on the basis of ability.This paper which researches on cultivating vocational core competencies of students majoring in English in Jilin Province, is valuable for improving this project to carry on, and then takes out some practical strategies. With that, we could not only help the students to master the vocational core competencies, and make them more competitive in job market, but also inspire them to get a continual vocational object, and advance the development of English education in higher vocational colleges in Jilin Province.
