| In recent years, our understanding of English grammar teaching has been further deepened.Grammar learning has changed from emphasizing knowledge mastery in the past to emphasizing effective application in practical activities nowadays, which is consistent with the internal requirements of higher vocational colleges to train vocational and practical talents. However, there are many problems in the teaching of English grammar for non-English majors in higher vocational colleges, such as students is not active in learning, their learning ability is low,and the traditional classroom teaching mode cannot effectively improve the teaching effect. With the development of knowledge-based economy, modern education has changed from knowledge-based to people-based,and the concept of key competencies emerged.Cultivating key competencies is conductive to overall development and lifelong development of students. At the same time, the rapid development of information technology provides strong support for the use of flipped classroom.Flipped classroom focuses on improving students’ autonomous learning ability and cooperative exploration ability. From this point of view, both English key competencies and flipped classroom can be used to improve the current situation of non-English majors’ grammar teaching in higher vocational colleges. However, previous studies on the two have focused on basic English education or reading of college comprehensive English. And there is still room for improvement for the specific application of flipped classroom.Teaching experts focus more on the theoretical research about English key competencies. They focus less on the empirical research on the combined application of flipped classroom and English key competencies to non-English majors’ grammar teaching in higher vocational colleges. In order to find a solution to the dilemma of English grammar teaching for non-English majors in higher vocational colleges, this paper, based on English key competencies, applies flipped classroom to English grammar teaching for non-English majors in higher vocational colleges, and conducts empirical research to explore its feasibility and effectiveness.First of all,to discuss the necessity of this study, this paper briefly elaborates the connotation of English key competencies and flipped classroom teaching mode, and review the relevant research at home and abroad. Then,a teaching experiment is conducted for one semester, and 94 non-English majors in a higher vocational college are taken as subjects. The validity of the teaching mode is tested by test paper, questionnaire and interview.Through the research, the author finds that the application of flipped classroom oriented by English key competencies to the teaching of English grammar for non-English majors in higher vocational colleges is effective. On one hand,it helps to improve students’ enthusiasm for learning, and can effectively enhance the teaching effect. On the other hand,it also helps to cultivate the English key competencies of non-English majors in higher vocational colleges. Finally, based on the research findings, the paper also states the shortcomings of this study and directions of future research. |
