Oral English learning has always been one of the hot topics in the field of foreign language teaching and learning in recent years. Oral English teaching is also an integral part of English language teaching. The training of spoken English is not only necessary for students in schools, but also important for people in the society who want to work or study abroad. There are a number of people in the society whose English proficiency is low, but wanting to live, work, or study abroad. How to effectively help those people in a short time has become a task for English Language teachers in China. In this study, a course is designed to meet such needs in an English language training school in the society.The main purposes of this research are: 1) To design the courses to meet the needs of workers who want to survive in Britain; 2) Evaluate whether the courses designed are effective or not to improve the learners or workers'spoken English to the level of successful communication; 3) Provide, to the training school, sample courses that can meet the needs of the workers who want to learn spoken English for survival purpose;4) Discuss how to make the course design on spoken English is suitable for the people who want to work or live abroad, and give some suggestion on how to improve the spoken English of the learners those whose basic English proficiency are low.Based on the principles of course design and second language aquisition, the researcher conducted an investigation about the teachers and learners in a English training school in Nandaihe. By utilizing the questionnaire and conducting interviews, the researcher tries to design a course to improve the learners'spoken English proficiency .Through the combination of the qualitative and quantitative analysis, the research results show that teacher's teaching method to some extent can affect learners'learning efficiency. Therefore, during the training, teachers should widen their teaching methods to satisfy learners'needs and improve learners'ability for communication in English.Four steps were taken to design the training course. In the first session, we defined the learners, studied the learning context and analyzed our learners'needs for learning spoken English. In the second session, we identified the learning goals and objectives. In the third session, we designed present teaching and learning activities, a guiding syllabus and the teaching methods. In the last session, we had the course evaluated according to feedback, made some changes of the course to make it better suit our learners.
