| Though the influence of Romain Rolland upon Lu Ling has already been men- tioned in many papers, all the researchers haven't paid enough attention to the pro- found resemblance and difference between them. By the combined study method of positivism and parallel comparison, this paper attempts to compare their ideal of hu- manistic value, which is formed in the process of counterattacking all kinds of alien- ation. This paper expects to deeply understand the experience of Lu Ling's success and the lesson of his failure during the process of disclosing "the scar of spiritual enslave- ment"and exploring "the positive emancipation of personality" This paper consists of five parts. Part one: Introduction, this part expounds Rollany's deep influence upon Lu Ling with substantial proof and interprets two concepts: "alienation"and "the ideal of hu- manistic value"in order to lay a foundation for the parallel comparison of the next part. Part two: Counterattacking alienation of the vitality. The living existent sur- roundings and spiritual resources made them counterattack alienation of masses, intel- lectuals and arts. In order to construct the perfect personality, Rolland understood all sorts of vitality deeply and more comprehensively than Lu Ling did. He loved dearly the vitality which leads to the creation of matter and spirit. Because of the feeling of national existent crisis, Lu Ling cherished the destructive vitality which can destroy all kinds of vicious power. Part three: Personality viewpoint. Personality viewpoint is an important compo- nent of both Rolland's and luling's ideal of humanistic value. They both thought that personality was formed in the process of counterattacking all sorts of alienation with vi- tality . Individual accomplishes his personality through trial, struggle and self-sur- pass. RolIand and Lu Ling il1sisted in PersonaIity during the stream of mass revolution-ary movement. They attempted to look fOr a kind of reasonable baIance which is appro-priate to the occasion and degree between 1he personality freedom and collectivism(so-cialism). Because the difference between the intellectuals and masses can' t be e1iminat-ed thoroughly, this kind of balance can only exist as the ideal.
