It aims at investigating the distribution, types and structures of the comparatives and superlatives in MEE and researching the way they are employed as compared with the other five corpora i.e. LOBA, BROWNA, MTE, NEC and T4. The grammatical category-comparison play an important role in the English language due to its distinctive semantic features. The comparative and superlative constructions in MEE display unique features in distribution and usage. The research is computer-aided. SNOBOL4, Visual Foxpro, SPSS programs and Chi-square test are employed in the study to search for and analyze the comparatives and superlatives in MEE and in other five corpora. All the SNOBOL4 programs and Chi-square test results are provided in the appendix. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Semantics features, Positive, Comparative, Superlative, Distribution, Frequency, Significance level, Critical value | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
