| Taking the changes in the rural finance of Jiangsu Province from 1912 to 1937 as the study object, the dissertation explores the causes, process, results and characteristics of the change with a combination of economics and history theories on the basis of abundant historical documents and literatures.First, the paper makes a full analysis of the inducements of the changes in rural finance of Jiangsu Province in the period of the Republic of China, and finds out that such factors, led to the previous financial system to change gradually and the new financial institutes to germinate and develop fast, as the changing lifestyle in rural areas, the development of market economy, the enhancement of marketization of farm produces, the change of foreign trade and the exhaustion of rural financing. Then, in the succeeding chapters, the paper mainly elaborates the Changes in the rural finance of Jiangsu Province during the period of the Republic of China. The most distinct aspects of the quantitative change of the rural financial institutions were that the old-style financial system institutes, such as hock shops, hehui(a kind of financial institution established by farmers themselves ) were decreasing gradually, whereas the new ones, such as agricultural banks, agricultural cooperatives, and agricultural warehouses, were growing rapidly in quantity. The new ones, however, still lagged behind the old ones because of various kinds of restrictions. In the changing process of qualitative structure, new financial institutions were operating scientifically with logic rules and regulations, expanding rapidly in business scopes, funds and scales, thus showing a strong advantage over the old ones. The paper believe that the modern rural financial system in Jiangsu Province also underwent some changes in space distribution and usage coverage, promoting the development of productive forces.The modern rural financial system in Jiangsu Province is gradually changing from the usury-type consumptive loan to loans in production and circulation, thus forming a relatively comprehensive system. In the new century, the questions of villages, farmers and agriculture remain important in the development of national economy and society. The research into the representative region of Jiangsu is in a hope of contributing to the improvement of the rural financial system in our country. |
