At the end of 1920 s,a rural education experiment aimed at developing rural education,revitalizing rural areas and realizing national prosperity and strength rose in China.Due to its superior economic foundation and unique open environment,with the appeal of its rural education situation and the competition of various domestic new thoughts,as well as the support and promotion of the government and non-governmental forces,the rural education experiment movement flourished in southern Jiangsu.Educators and educational groups have designated rural experimental areas to carry out rural improvement or rural construction experiments with education as the main body.The typical experimental areas in southern Jiangsu include xugongqiao experimental area in Kunshan,shanrenqiao experimental area in Suzhou,Huangxu experimental area in Zhenjiang and Wujin experimental area in Changzhou.Through teaching farmers how to improve their livelihood,popularizing education of cultural knowledge,improving health and changing customs and customs,the scientific concepts,knowledge and advanced technology were embedded into all aspects of rural life in each experimental area,which basically solved the livelihood problems of local farmers,initially improved the medical environment of farmers,and achieved outstanding results in "literacy" and improved the quality of farmers to a certain extent.Due to the influence of specific social and historical conditions and subjective factors,this massive rural education experiment inevitably has limitations.Its goal of improving rural society and realizing the prosperity of the country and the people in old China has not been achieved.However,educators regard education as an effective means to save the nation from subjugation,consciously shouldering the historical burden of educating farmers,uniting farmers and sharing the country’s worries,which should always be praised by the world.Summing up the experience and lessons of this educational experiment can provide useful reference for the development of rural education.
