| YuanZhen (779-831) ,a famous writer in mid-Tang period in China, was rich in literary thought, among which the most important idea is meicifengjiao (compliment, satire, chant and education) .It required literary works reveal social reality and emphasized the poem's social function ,i.e. the ruling class educated the ruled class and the ruled satired the ruling by poems, thus releasing the pain of the people and helping the politics. YuanZhen's literary thought of meicifengjiao revealed themselves in his yuefushi ( the poems imitating folk songs or ballads in the Han dynasty style),love poems in a flowery style, poems meditating on the past and chuanqi(a kind of short story in Tang and song dynasties). YuanZhen's literary thoughts inherited and developed the fine tradition of meicibixin (compliment, satire, metaphor and inspiration) in the book of songs, and exerted a significant influence on later ages. |
